Are You A Good Boss
Everyone wants to have and be a good boss in the work environment;
it makes the job more enjoyable to be at on a daily basis. But what
does make a person into a good boss? Is it learned behaviour or does it
just come naturally to some people??
One thing that makes a person a good boss is the attempt to include
everyone in the team. A good boss treats each one of his employees
equally (no teacher’s pets, so to speak). A great boss encourages a
healthy environment which includes trust, respect, so each employee
feels that they are important and thus keeps everyone on the same page
when it comes to work. Being approachable while being aloof, friendly
while still being strict, able to think outside of the box a little,
but still use common sense
One of the hardest things for a boss to handle is office
politics. The trick is to deal with them before they get out of hand
and the best way to keep problems like this at bay or any type of
problems. If staff is allowed to vent, discuss, or talk about. This
would allow staff to cover any issues that they feel are negative and
do so without fear of retribution.
Instead of being a leader, be a coach. The great generals of wars
have not been afraid to make themselves equal with the men they
commanded. A good leader of any type of group, knows how not only guide
and direct their staff, but also gently point out important things that
they need to know.
It would seem that most good leaders are not born, but formed. Of
course, there are going to be bosses that are a natural, but for most
bosses, the route to become a great boss has been through hours of
management seminars and they have learned how to be an effective leader
by working hard. In fact, anyone can become a great boss, the trick is
to develop those traits to their best ability.
Finally, a good boss needs to be fair all the time, be neutral,
provide both constructive criticism and positive feedback. It is not
impossible to become a great boss, but for most, it does require effort.
