Energy Savings on the Front Burner Now
Now more than ever, it's important to conserve energy, and to
look to alternative and renewable resources. We've all
experienced the recent and dramatic spike in prices at the
pump. Higher oil prices because of restricted supplies will
affect all our businesses for some time, even though our
President reassures us its only a temporary hike. What's a
businesswoman to do? At the top of the energy-savings list for
me is making efficient use of my car trips. Easy to say when
you're a work-at-home writer, not so easy to put into practice
when your business depends on getting out and about. Maybe
now's the time to find out more about the hybrid electric cars
like the Toyota Prius (www.toyota.com/prius), which are
increasingly popular here in my part of rural southeastern
Colorado. Now's definitely the time to heed what your mother
told you, like "Turn out the lights when you leave the room."
Go one better by buying energy-saving light bulbs
(www.alwaysbrilliant.com). For a quick electricity-savings fix,
unplug the black box converters from your power adapters when
not in use—they're always pulling energy. Now could also be
the time to demand that your elected officials support
renewable resources of all kinds and step up research on the
hydrogen-fueled fuel cell car, which has only one emission—hot
water. Find out more about this transportation option at
