Halloween In A Hurry – how to decorate for Halloween and have it last til Thanksgiving.
With Halloween just around the corner and Thanksgiving following
shortly after now is the time to decorate once without having to
decorate again for Thanksgiving.
Old standbys like pumpkins, gourds and corn stalks are great, but
how about a few other great ideas? Add some mums along with pumpkins
and vines or branches for the outside of your home. Or maybe some ears
of Indian corn to be tied together for your front door? (if you are
placing gourds and pumpkins on a wood surface be sure to put plastic
under the item as it will get soft and mushy over
time and possibly leave marks on the wood surface.)
To bring in the aura of fall into the inside of your house how about
some candy corn in small dishes with candles placed in them? Or a cake
pate on a stand with pumpkins and acorns on it or lay a wreath down
flat on the table, fill the hole in the middle with pumpkins and fill
any gaps with leaves or nuts. Hollow out mini pumpkins and fill either
with a votive or use as a vase to put a few cuttings in. A table runner
in the middle of a table can be covered with fall leaves, Halloween
confetti or candy corn.
If you are the one hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year, why not
use small gourds or pumpkins as either place card holders (by slicing a
slot in to place a small piece of cardstock, or by writing the guests
name on the pumpkin or gourd with permanent magic marker. Another idea
that I really like and have done in the past is, go to your local craft
or gardening store and purchase small clay pots. In the clay pots, you
can put a leaf or two, perhaps a short cornstalk (or a piece of it) and
maybe a few candies and write the persons name on the pot or on a
leaf. Or you could give each person a small cutting of a mum plant in
each pot, the ideas are almost endless.
Fall is such a wonderful season of the year, take time to enjoy it on the inside or your home and on the outside as well.
