Living Positive In A Negative World
With all the natural disasters of late, the war in Iraq, AIDS, gas
prices on the rise, violence in our own backyards (so it seems
sometimes) and more so, how do we raise our children to live positive?
I am a self confessed news-junkie. I like to watch the news pretty
much daily, but it can get overwhelming some of the time. You don’t
want to de-sensitise yourself to what is going on in the world, but on
the same token, you don’t want to make yourself or the ones that are
closes to you blue either.
One idea to live positive is to take a news sabbatical. Also be
careful what news you expose your children to. Another idea is to do
what you can in your neighbourhood. You might not be able to change the
big picture, but you can work to change your little corner of the world
You can start to change your corner of the world by being
thankful. Being appreciative of people will give everyone that you
interact with a good feeling that hopefully they will share.
Finally, focus on what you can change. While you can’t change the
fact that hurricanes Rita and Katrina hit the southern states, you can
start by having a clothing drive or bake sale to raise money. What you
can’t change, you need to let go of and just move on and get busy
living the rest of your life.
