Radical Change
Change is a part of every day life. Most would agree that change is
a necessary factor as it helps us to grow and become (hopefully) a
better person.
Of course, not all change is negative, some, such as a new job; baby
or a marriage can change your life hopefully for the better, but can
cause just as much of an upheaval as negative changes. Small changes
can also have just as much impact on a person as large, life altering
ones. I guess the key is how one handles these changes in their life.
First I think what is important is that you let yourself
grieve. Even good changes can disrupt your life because it will never
be the way it was before. Like for example, even when you move to a new
house that is in a better location and is bigger, you will still
remember and feel sad because of all the happy times you experienced at
your old house. This type of reaction is normal, even if it is a happy
time.
As we age, we tend to want to resist change, but unfortunately, that
only makes it harder on us. If we are rigid and against change, it
makes us like a boat in a storm – you can either go with the waves or
against them.
Don’t feel as if you your own island. If you need help dealing with
a change, get it. Change can either make you better or bitter. Try to
see the good in every change. It may not be evident at the outset, but
given time you will find it. It may be something more wisdom or that
this crisis has made you stronger, hang in there, it will come.
Know that all change comes to an end. The situation will become familiar to you in time.
Change is an unavoidable being human; it is up to you to make it positive.
