Training Business Women Of Tomorrow - Mentoring
Yes, we can start training women that are already in business school
how to be the successful business women of tomorrow, but what about
starting younger than these women? How about teach teen girls and even
preteen girls to be the entrepreneurs of tomorrow?
This especially hits home to me because I have two young daughters
who will one day be out on their own. I have often thought of
suggesting non traditional roles to them as a career opportunity when
they get older.
We can start this process by teaching the young girls of today that
a) they can do anything they put their mind to and b) they can be the
boss!
Most girls love to play with baby dolls and like to pretend they are
mommies, but its also important to introduce them to ‘Hotwheels’ and
trains and science kits.
Some girls as well as boys are born entrepreneurs running lemonade
stands from early ages, but how can we mould, instil a driving spirit
into and open doors for the other young women?
It is shown that brain scientists believe we do our best learning before
kindergarten and mentoring young girls is similarly potent, plus the
companies that choose to have days like ‘take your kid to work’
days. Other companies work together with education facilities to
persuade girls to get into non traditional occupations.
The school that in my neighbourhood has done something fairly
radical with their grades seven and eight classes in starting gender
based learning (no, its not a Catholic school). The school is the first
one in our corner of the world to do this. The point is that girls feel
less embarrassed to follow their dreams (whatever that maybe) and don’t
feel so intimidated by their male counterpart.
What we as parents, caregivers, teachers and even grandparents need
to teach our young girls is confidence and teach them how take risks
and achieve more. We can teach them to reach for the stars, encourage
girls to start to think outside of the box…if we start to empower young
girls now, who knows what they will become!
