Women Like Sports Too

Vent time! Picture a crowded sports bar, 20 or 30 men and maybe one or two women there. Well that might have been the scenario of the past, but is this still the case? Do women just watch sports because of their man’s interest in it? I would have to say a definite no!

It would seem that schools try and foster a love of sports at an early age. They do this by making gym time fun for each participant. And with that participation (sometimes) a deeper love for a sport develops. Many women that you talk to have a favourite football team, basketball team or hockey team whom they cheer for. I know a lady who loves watching Nascar just as much as her husband does and would be the first to put it on if he wasn’t in the house. I also know a young girl, who at 15 plays both golf semi-professionally and hockey!

It would seem that again, with school cutting back on extra-curricular activities and gym time, will the future generations suffer? In a poll conducted by ESPN, it found out that girls tend to watch sports that women participated in and boys were starting to get into more extreme types of sports. So it is up to parents to encourage the love of sports.

But on a lighter side, it appears that about 39% of women are interested in sports, women tend to admit less that they cuss at players and referees (9% of women compared to 24% of men), so it would appear that the love of the game doesn’t apply to men anymore.
