Your Business Website
With so many people spending their days online and searching the
Internet for a plethora of goods and services, how can you make your
company stand out and entice the buyer to want to contact your
company? Why, your company’s website of course!!
There are several ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts’ that you will need to know
before creating a website for your business. Of course, you want it to
be unique and grab people’s attention, how can that be done?
A definite don’t for a small business is not to spend too much money
on web hosting. If you are just starting out, you won’t have to spend a
lot of money on extras, such as 10,000MG (10GB) in space, so don’t get
it! Also purchasing a pre-defined package might not be a good idea
either. Your site is possibly the only business tool that people will
see and you need it to be developed to your specifications, needs and
wants. Also, don’t focus too much on eye candy (the bling bling of the
Internet), remember that your site is there for your business – the key
is that it is easy to operate, navigate around and if it takes too long
for your customers to load or is difficult to get around, well, we live
in an instant gratification world and if its not there, they will move
on.
Some do’s are to make sure that in your marketing budget, you have
money set aside for your site. If you don’t plan ahead, chances are you
won’t have the traffic you desire. Think about it, there are millions
of sites on the net, you will have to make yours stand out. Do provide
feedback as soon as possible. Importantly, do your homework! Research
companies before you commit your money to them. Also, you will need to
make sure that you keep your website up to date. Nothing looses
customers more quickly than a site that hasn’t been updated for months
or (gasp) even years! Would you want to buy their product?
I am sure this list only scratches the surface of what is needed to
be done to compose a great website. Talk to business colleagues, see
how they went about it and get their advice and who knows?
