White Space: Stay Away from Visual Clutter Graphic design is about effectively communicating an idea. A cluttered page of type and pictures communicates nothing in that it tries too hard to communicate everything. Have you ever met someone who talks incessantly but doesn't seem to say anything of importance? After awhile you don't hear a darn thing they say - they just become a source of auditory clutter. On the other hand there are those who say very little, yet when they speak people hang on their every word. Make people hang on to every element of your design by avoiding visual clutter. This means that instead of trying to fill up every inch of space with copy or pictures, you should leave "white space" on the page. This simple technique can be the difference between ghastly design and great design.
