| "I strive to see the world with the innocence and fascination of a
child. The hands-on nature of collage lends itself to this objective. I
use magazines as the medium for my collage work. When using one image
to create another, there are many subtle variables that cannot be
controlled (i.e.: the way a strand of hair lies, the tonal qualities of
a model’s skin, etc.) An “adult” might try to manipulate the medium to
make it their own, to somehow conform it into a semblance of order.
However, this is where I strive to be childlike. I let these nuances
determine how the piece will develop. Much like swimming with the
current rather than against it, the collages flow smoothly. I am
consistently surprised with how each piece develops and turns out. As a
result, my work tends to capture a simplistic nature that reflects this
process. As with the process of creating the collages, my preference
for subject matter matches this simplistic undercurrent. I am drawn to
images that reflect a simple, innocent and honest view of the world."
